 “The Big Fix”
Salon Makeover Contest

Open to individuals who are professional salon/spa owners, legal residents of Canada and 21years of age or older at time of entry. The salon entering must be in business for more than two (2) years. Void where prohibited by law. 

  1. ENTRY FEE: “The Big Fix” Salon Makeover Contest has a $100 entry fee. Payment must be made by 11:59 p.m EST on January 31, 2010. Method of payment includes cheque, Visa and American Express. Contact 416-923-1111 for payment.

  2. ELIGIBILITY: “The Big Fix” Salon Makeover Contest is open to professional salon/spa business owners (excluding chain salons) who are legal residents of Canada and 21 years of age or older at time of entry. Entering salons must be in business for more than two (2) years. Employees of Harco Publishing and their immediate families and those living in the same household (whether related or not) are disqualified from entering. Contest subjected to all applicable local laws and regulations. Participation in the Contest constitutes entrants full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules which are full and binding.

  3. HOW TO ENTER: “The Big Fix” Salon Makeover Contest commences on July 15, 2009 at 12:00 a.m. EST with entries submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on January 31, 2010. To enter, visit canhair.com and click on  ‘Contests/The Big Fix’. Print out and completely fill out the (a) entry form and; (b) mail us no more than five (5) photographs OR one (1) video that shows the interior of the salon including waiting area, workstations, retail area and backbar (c) a written description of why you believe your salon requires “The Big Fix” (limited to 500 words). Limit one (1) entry per salon.

You may enter by mail, FedEx or another carrier that uses a tracking number. Proof of delivery does not constitute proof of entry.

Qualified entries will be judged by registered visitors to “The Big Fix” page at canhair.com and qualified judges as chosen by the Sponsors. The entry with the most number of electronic votes at the end of the voting period shall be declared The Grand Prize Winner. The written description, application form and photographs OR video shall constitute the entry.

Application Form: Found at canhair.com/contests/TheBigFix. Must be completed in full and received by January 31, 2010 and include entrants name, date of birth, address, email address and telephone number as well all other fields requested on the form.

Photographs/Video: All photographs must be submitted on disc. Photographs and slides will not be accepted. Each image must be labeled and an accompanying printout of images is to be included and may be used as the CD case front insert.

Photos must be a minimum of 8” x 10” at 200 dpi (2400 x 3000 pixels).
Images must be colour-corrected CMYK files, saved in TIFF format.
Due to the nature of the judging process, images that carry any sort of identification (salon name, logo, etc.) will be disqualified).

Videos must not be longer than two (2) minutes. XXX

No more than five (5) photographs may be submitted and must include one (1) one exterior and three to four (3-4) interior images.

The focus of the images must be the main salon areas including workstation, reception and retail.

Must not contain anything deemed to be inappropriate or offensive.

The original photos must not contain any person may not appear in the photographs or video nor can it contain anything that violates the rights of the third parties including but not limited to copyrights (music) trademark and right of publicity/privacy.

A copy of the video must be retained by the entrant in its original format (DVD, high resolution, HD) to ensure the best viewing of the video if Entry is selected as winner.

Written Description: Tell us in 500 words or less why your salon is deserving of “The Big Fix.” The following criteria must also be included:

Written in English
Typed and double-spaced
Must not contain any offensive or inappropriate content
Must convey why your salon is deserving of “The Big Fix”

  1. Prizes: One (1) Grand Prize Winner will be announced on Sunday February 28, 2010 at the 2010 <i>Canadian Hairdresser<i> Mirror Awards. The Grand Prize consists of:  (1) the redesign service of FIORE + GRECO DESIGN INC. to redesign the winner’s salon, and (2) Salon Biz Training courtesy of Alain Audet, Canadian Hairdresser and . Approximate retail value (ARV): up to a value of $50,000 (Actual ARV will vary depending on scope and extent of the winning salon’s space). Renovation work must be completed by 11:59pm (EST) exactly 3 months after the winner is chosen.

 It is the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner to contract with all contractors and workmen and securing all necessary consents and/or licenses and permissions from all third parties (including without limitation from government agencies, landlords, etc). The Grand Prize does not include charges or costs not expressly stated above. Any taxes and other expenses incurred are the winner’s sole responsibility. Sponsor(s) reserve the right to substitute prize of greater or equal value if an advertised prize is unavailable. Absolutely no cash equivalent, substitution or transfer of prize permitted.

Entrant agrees and acknowledges that by entering, acceptance of the Grand Prize is subject to all unpredictable risks involved in any renovation of interior spaces (including and not limited to property damage, time delays, personal injury, impact on business and dissatisfaction with results). Entrant agrees that all such risks that Sponsor(s) are hereby released of any liability, direct or indirect, for claims arising from the renovations and such risks shall be borne solely by Entrant. Further acknowledgment and agreement must be made by the entrant that the Sponsor(s) make no representations or warranties regarding the impact that acceptance of the Grand Prize may or may not have on the business results of winner’s salon.

Prize Acceptance Conditions:

Salon must be open for regular business at least two (2) years prior to the Contest Period

Sponsor(s) shall have final approval and sole control of the design of updated space.

Salon must provide 3-5 (depending on space) staff members to support renovation program. [Note: Risks inherent in including staff, who may or may not be qualified to assist: unpredictable quality of work, reliability, injury, etc.]

Any changes to the final approved design shall be at salon’s cost

Salon owner/approved representative shall approve the final design in writing

Sponsor(s) product must be exclusively displayed in the redesigned space

Salon owner/rep must be present at all times during renovations/construction

Salon must give the design team 48 – 52 hours of closed business time.

Salon must participate in a sales study

Salon must be in “working order” (aka plumbing, etc.)

Salon must carry appropriate level of insurance as determined by Sponsor(s) in its reasonable discretion, add Harco Publishing as an additional insured party on such insurance and provide documentation therof to Sponsor(s) upon request.
